"Installation of a lighting system with a timer on a circadian-friendly schedule that adjusted the brightness and color of lighting throughout the day led people to say their work performance was 18 percent better, and 71 percent felt more energized, 76 percent felt happier, and 50 percent felt healthier."
Circadian Rhythm refers to bodily functions that occur approximately every 24 hours. While circadian lighting is relatively new, circadian rhythms have been observed for centuries in plants and animals. This rhythm, controlled by a small part of the brain known as the circadian pacemaker, is powerfully influenced by light exposure. Light plays a pivotal role in governing our mood, attentiveness, efficiency, sense of well-being throughout the day, and overall quality of our sleep.
Circadian Lighting mimics the full spectrum of natural light, which benefits health and well-being by improving comfort, enhancing mood, and boosting productivity. Circadian Lighting is, in effect, an artificial sunrise to sunset that travels through the color spectrum from 2,700K to 6,500K illuminance levels.
We manufacture and install fixtures to provide Circadian Lighting for any application.
Education: Producing light with a cooler blue color temperature and higher intensity mimics the sun’s daylight quality. That induces dopamine, endorphins and cortisol while suppressing melatonin, which can promote higher visual acuity and mental focus. Studies have demonstrated significant improvements in learning efficiency and test scores under circadian lighting, including a study of elementary school students conducted by the University of Mississippi showed a 33% increase in performance under Circadian Lighting. According to research in Neuroendocrinology Letters, students exposed to Circadian Lighting throughout the day should be able to sleep better at night, which can be a powerful tool for learning.
Cognitive development is linked to sleep, so schools should have a vested interest in promoting healthy sleep. Research published in Brain and Cognition demonstrated that the frontal lobe, which enables rational thinking and critical decision making requires deep sleep to accomplish the neural maturation required for proper development during adolescence.
Hotels and Medical Facilities: Sound sleep for guests and patients. Lowering the color temperature and dimming the light at the end of the day mimics the color spectrum during sunset, inducing melatonin and prompting calmer moods and better sleep.
Quality sleep is critical for immune health, with recent research showing that the disruption of the biological circadian clock leads to a disruption of immune responses. Reinforcing the circadian rhythm of high-risk people, in hospitals, for example, may boost immunity and prevent hospital-acquired infections.
Animal Husbandry: Circadian Lighting can help regulate the circadian rhythm of livestock, improving behavior and overall well-being, leading to increased milk production and weight gain. Poultry production also benefits from increased egg production, weight gain, lower morbidity, and reduced stress.
